Backstage Saturday Series - Week 1

Welcome to a sneak peek behind the scenes here at Charming Necessities!  It was a very busy week here - and while I worked I snapped a few pictures.

I made lots, and lots of Vintage Beauty Sunsuits.  This pile doesn't look like much - but will end up looking like this:

A few finished knot dresses and ruffle pants:

I also made a newborn pillowcase dress and ruffled diaper cover in the Parisian Rose collection - I had to take a picture, it was so tiny and adorable!

A customer requested an Apron Peasant Dress in the Springtime in Paris collection, and it turned out so pretty!  I hope to list this dress on my site this weekend.

My ironing board with a few pieces in the works.  Usually the stacks of things to make are much higher than this.  :)  The stack to the right is Feeling Groovy (coming soon).

I talk about my twin girls a lot - but I also have two sweet boys.  :)  They don't get very excited about my dresses and hair accessories.  LOL

I have a few new hair accessories coming soon, including the Old Hollywood Feather Headband.  These are stunning curly najorie feathers on a double ruffle elastic headband with a large rhinestone encrusted pearl embellishment.  LOVE!

Don't freak out......

How beautiful is this mini top hat headband?  It will be available on my site soon!  :)

Thanks for stopping by and taking a little look behind the scenes at Charming Necessities!

Backstage Saturday Series - starts this weekend!

I've had a lot of great feedback about my blog post of my new studio and thought that it would be fun to share something on a weekly basis. So, I'm excited to announce a weekly series where I will be posting pictures and blogging about what I have been working on during the week! I will include some fun pictures of clothing in production and also throw in a few peeks at new products in the works! First post will be this Saturday, April 9th.  See you then!

New studio for Charming Necessities!

Charming Necessities has grown by leaps and bounds over the past six months.  I used to be able to keep up with orders working at night after my four kids go to bed.  Not so much anymore!  It has gotten to the point where I work on something relating to Charming Necessities, whether it be making headbands, sewing dresses, packing orders, printing shipping labels, etc., all through out the day while I am with my kids, and then usually at night too!

I was so happy a couple weeks ago when my husband and I decided to move all of my things downstairs into our barely used living room.

Before, my studio took up half of my kids playroom.  Now I have a whole room to myself!  The only thing I used the living room for before this was to pack and ship orders.  Now I can do everything in one place.  AND its downstairs so I can work on small things while my kids play.

Want to see where all the magic happens?  Here is my lovely new studio!  :)

This is the view into the room from the entry.  My husband painted the big letters pink for me (huge points for this!) and also bought and put together two more bookshelves to stack on top of my existing bookshelves so I could keep all my fabric bolts organized.  I took some of my favorite decorations from around my house and used them to make the room "mine".

These are the front windows on my house.  I get lots of natural light, and I love being able to sit near the window while I work!  The middle table is my cutting table, also where I keep my ipod and speakers, order sheets, and sewing stuff (scissors, etc).

The sewing area!  Where all the dresses, pants, diaper covers, and sunsuits on my site come from.  :)

Ahhhhhh, isn't it pretty?  Its not quite this organized and neat all the time, but I try to keep it this way.  I love looking at all the pretty fabrics, I have a bit of an addiction.  LOL

This is the ugly part of my room.  The packing and shipping area.  All the boxes and shipping supplies are to the right.  To the left is the entry to our family room - so its easy to keep an eye on the kids if I am in my studio.  I take the baby gate down while I'm in this room too, so the kids can go back and forth if they choose.

The white cabinets hold all my flowers, headbands, tights, chiffon, feathers, etc.  The tall drawers have my rhinestones, ribbon, hardware, and things like that.  The area in the lower right hand corner in the hallway is what my hubby calls the "outgoing mail department".  LOL

Thanks for taking a peek at my new space!

Fallen behind on blogging...

again!  I have been so busy I have had NO time to blog.  But thats ok - there will be three new collections coming out in the next month or so - so stay tuned!

I cannot wait to post and share all three collections.  The first will be Haute Couture, the fabrics are French postcards/script, floral,  and paisley prints.  There will be a Peasant Dress, Knot Dress, and Vintage Beauty Sunsuit with matching headbands.  It all turned out so lovely, I can't wait to get the pictures back!

I have a few other things in the works, including a new feather headband.  The Old Hollywood Feather Headband is curly najorie feathers and an extra large pearl/rhinstone accent on a stretchy headband.  They are sooo very elegant!

Also I will be getting some lace petti rompers in soon!  I can't wait for these either - they are super trendy right now, PERFECT for pictures.  I'm thinking they would be ah-dorable paired with a Couture Mini Top Hat!

A couple weeks ago my husband and I made the decision to move my studio (used to take up half of my kids playroom) downstairs to our never used living room.  I will blog more about it and post some pictures soon - it is so amazing to have my own space!  Since I work on orders and pack/ship them during the day while I'm with my kids, its so nice to have everything downstairs and not have to run up and down the steps 100 times a day!

I will leave you with a candid shot of my girls.  They love to sit in the chair and look at my sewing machines (and push buttons when I let them, LOL).  They also love to look at all of my fabrics and tell me which one is their "faybrit" (favorite).  I'm teaching them early.  :)

Please excuse the just-woke-up-from-naps hair!
